water smell

Chemically pure water completely devoid of taste and smell. However, the nature of this water does not occur - it always contains in its composition, and solutes bacteria. As the concentration of inorganic and organic materials, the water begins to receive one or the other or odors. On the odor of water affect the composition of the solutes, temperature, pH.

Water odors

The water smells like fish, land, rot

This smell is water from open reservoirs containing natural organic compounds. The reason is decaying of algae and plants. a particularly intense smell manifested during flowering reservoirs.

Purification of water with the smell of rot:

  • filters with activated carbon (adsorption).
  • for potable use - household reverse osmosis.

The water smells of chlorine

This smell is mainly found in the municipal water and the water is due to the strong chlorination of water at the treatment plants. Contrary to popular belief, chlorine when used properly does not cause occurrence of noticeable odor or taste. The appearance of such an odor or taste indicates overdose chlorination. At the same time, chlorine is capable of reacting chemically with various substances dissolved in the water, forming compounds which impart water to many well-known taste and smell "bleach".

Water treatment with chlorine odor:

  • filters with activated carbon (adsorption).
  •
  • For potable use - household reverse osmosis.

The water smells like rotten eggs

This means having the smell of water in the water of dissolved hydrogen sulphide. The smell of hydrogen sulfide may indicate the presence of bacteria that produce hydrogen sulfide. That organisms cause the appearance of mold, musty or earthy smell and taste. The tendency to breed these microorganisms occur in stagnant water and places where water can be heated (eg in boilers). This smell is often in the groundwater.

Purification of water with the smell of hydrogen sulfide:

  • MGS filters loading (manganese green sand).
  •
  • chlorination or ozonation of water
  •
  • use other methods for biological purification of water

The water smells of phenol

If the water smells like phenol or has a chemical smell, it means presence of sewage in the water system. Many of the substances contained in the wastewater of industrial production, can cause severe drug or chemical odor of the water. In particular, the problem is the phenolic compounds that chlorination of water have created a characteristic odor chlorophenol compounds.

Purification of water with a chemical smell:

  • an activated carbon filter (adsorption).
  • microfiltration

Way of water contamination

Ingress of bacteria into the water wells:

  • through groundwater in aquifers
  • through the gap between the drilled hole and the shaft casing (filled with coarse backfill) or rotten casing
  • upper contaminated water into the lower layers
  • Then to the intake filter pump.

Most often in the risk zone, where you may receive an unpleasant smell of water, it falls densely populated areas. Infected groundwater fed by aquifers or their neighbors' wells (after all, no one knows the direction of movement of groundwater). Through the sand with the water well are viruses, bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and other microorganisms, which are many times smaller than a grain of sand. From wells contaminated water gets into the cottage pipeline. Even with artesian water leak some bacteria, viruses, fungi or spores, then after a while they multiply to large colonies (biofilm) in a warm and friendly for bacterias environment. A person can get sick by drinking this water.

The smell of the water from the boiler

When water is cold, there is no smell. Why, there is an unpleasant odor of the water from the boiler, in the presence of water purification systems in the house? Answer: - Through the pipes together with water, floating different viruses, bacteria, fungi, protozoa and other microorganisms. They settle on the inner walls of pipes, forming mucus (colonies of microorganisms), this is called biofilm slime. This biofilm is a huge repository and distributor of various bacteria. Division of biofilms during reproduction, the microorganisms with the flow of water supplied to the home of the consumer.

If the water from the boiler start to smell, it means that your boiler is infected with the bacteria Legionella pneumophila. The unpleasant odor of the water from the boiler arises from the colonies of bacteria that settle and actively multiply in the lower parts of the boiler (the scum on the bottom of the boiler, rubber gasket seals on the flange, and very much on the magnesium anode). The anode is the best place for the formation of bacterial colonies, as there is the best for temperature control bacteria. A bad smell of hot water signals, the reproduction of the boiler dangerous for human health (especially children), the number of bacteria Legionella pneumophila. But if you remove the magnesium anode, the boiler will remain without corrosion protection, and the bacteria will no longer settle on the walls of the lower part of the tank, and the problem of the smell of water from the boiler, it is still not resolved. It will help only the sterilization or disinfection of the boiler and a supply of water pipes.

The best temperature for bacteria Legionella pneumophila, is the same as average boiler temperature. If the boiler operates at low temperatures, during the heating of water, magnesium anode is washed by upward flow of heated water. Bacteria separated from the colonies (biofilms) rise up, settle on the walls of the boiler tank. Further proliferate slowly but large areas of the tank (above the anode), since they are not destroyed by high temperatures, because it is missing. And then infected with the water in the boiler stinks, and users creates discomfort and health problems.

Only disinfection of water and all plumbing fixtures and odor of hot water from the boiler. Developed different ways of water disinfection, and we offer a few:

  1. Cleaning the boiler + disinfection. (A temporary solution to the problem, and the first stage).
  2. Installing the optional filter element for manual independent of the periodic system of disinfection, the user (second stage).
  3. Design, installation and maintenance of individual systems supply water disinfection and purification of water to a safe level of use.
